MATTHEW Dudley's brace guided Kendal Town to a comfortable 3-1 win at bottom of the table Burscough on Saturday afternoon.

Dudley opened the scoring after 33 minutes before Sam Bailey doubled the lead two minutes later. Phil Bannister pulled a goal back for the hosts at the start of the second half before Dudley made the game safe after 50 minutes as Kendal moved up to twelfth in the table.

Kendal dominated from the start and were unfortunate not to be ahead when Rob Bowman was denied by Richie Mottram who made an excellent diving save.

Bowman continued to create opportunities, first firing wide before forcing Mottram into action again.

Kendal kept up the pressure and Charlie Bailey was next to go close, but saw his low shot on goal go wide of the post.

Burscough played with plenty of spirit while their main threat came through Akaunu Mamoke whose goal-bound attempt sailed over the bar.

Kendal broke the deadlock though when Sam Bailey won possession on the right hand side before laying the pass off too Dudley who finished from close range.

The Mintcakes doubled their advantage two minutes later when Sam Bailey's shot on goal squirmed past Mottram and into the net. Bailey had acres of space before unleashing a powerful shot that should have been stopped by the Burscough goalkeeper.

Burscough battled as the first half drew to a close while Kendal shot stopper Will Kitchen had little to do.

The hosts pulled a goal back on the 48th minute when Phil Bannister slotted home past Kitchen, however the joy was shortlived as Dudley made it 3-1 two minutes later after capitalising on a mistake by Mottram.

Both sides pressed and created chances as the game became wide open, with Sam Bailey, Dudley, and Bowman all going close while Bannister and Danny Ashburner blazed over for the hosts.

Burscough were also denied a goal when the Kendal defence cleared Bannisters effort off the line, however Kendal saw out the closing stages with ease as they picked up the win.

Kendal host Brighouse Town on Saturday before entertaining Tadcaster Albion the following Tuesday.
