KENDAL Town came back from two goals down to rescue a point against play-off hopefuls Trafford on Saturday.

Matthew Dudley revived hopes for the Mintcakes with a goal five minutes from time before Adam Freeland struck deep into injury time as Kendal salvaged an unlikely point.

Trafford started the game brightly and could have gone ahead when Craig Linfield dragged a shot wide after 11 minutes. However Kendal almost opened the scoring themselves moments later when a ball over the top caught the hosts' defence square only for Dudley to blaze the ball over the bar.

Trafford continued to create opportunities with Linfield again going close but he could only fire a tame shot to Kitchen following good work by Luke Horrocks.

However Trafford broke the deadlock when Andy Keogh slipped the ball under the Mintcakes shot stopper who had come running out of his goal.

Trafford remained in control, while Kendal continued to battle as the half time whistle went.

The home team started the second half well as Linfield again fired high after good build up play by Kingsley Williams and Keogh.

Linfield and Williams had a lot of success down the right flank as Williams missed another glorious chance for the hosts.

Trafford doubled their advantage on the hour mark when Anthony Griffiths found Aaron Burns at the edge of the box, before Burns steadied himself and curled a left footed shot beyond Kitchen.

The hosts were seemingly comfortable with their advantage but Kendal set up an exciting finale as they got back into the game when Freeland, on from the bench, sent a deep cross to the back post where Dudley stayed calm to head home.

Having provided the first Freeland was then on hand to secure the Mintcakes a point in time added on. Trafford keeper Terry Smith failed to hold on to a free kick into the area and Freeland was first on the scene to poke the ball into the net.

Kendal host Mossley on Saturday before they travel to Lancaster on Easter Monday.
