Kendal Town made a disappointing start to the new season after losing 5-2 to Mossley at The Pye Motors Stadium.

The Mintcakes had done well in the first half after overturning a 1-0 deficit to lead 2-1 at the break after goals by Connor Gaul and Aaron Taylor.

However, Mossley overpowered Kendal in the second half before running out 5-2 winners.

Kendal made a poor start to the game and fell behind after just two minutes when Jack Tuohy found time and space in the box before finishing well past Will Kitchen in the Kendal goal.

The visitors dominated the earlier stages and could have gone further ahead through Liam Ellis, who saw his snap shot pushed over the bar by Kitchen before Adam Latham’s low shot rattled the cross bar.

However, Kendal equalised against the run of the play on the 34th minute when an inswinging free kick from the right hand side by Gaul was fumbled into the net by Mossley shot stopper Oliver Martin.

With four minutes left in the first half Kendal went 2-1 up when Taylor drilled the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the net from just outside the penalty area. Taylor did well to finish as the Mossley defence was caught off guard.

Mossley had two chances in first half injury time to equalise when Mohamud Ali fired over from 25 yards before Ellis’s diving header went over the bar.

In the second half, Kitchen pushed Latham's effort onto the crossbar as Kendal were struggling to get out of their own half.

Mossley equalised after 52 minutes when a cross into the box by Ellis fell to Tuohy who fired home from close range.

Things went from bad to worse for Kendal in the 71st minute when Latham fired the visitors in front after a good attacking move caught the Mintcakes napping.

From that point, Mossley turned the screw as Sam Gibson slotted the ball into the bottom left hand corner before Mason Duffy's low shot on the 88th minute condemned Kendal to defeat as Mossley ran out comfortable winners.
