KENDAL Town progressed into the second qualifying round of the FA Cup after a 4-1 replay win over Harrogate Railway on Tuesday night.

The Mintcakes, who drew 1-1 in the reverse fixture at the weekend, were worthy winners as Ric Seear scored a brace, while Connor Gaul and Charlie Bowman where also on target.

Kendal made a bright start to the game but had to wait thirteen minutes for their first shot on goal when former Morecambe academy graduate Paul Dawson’s long-distance effort flew over the cross bar.

The visitors created their first chance on goal when Anees Younas forced Will Kitchen into action. Younas drove through the middle of Kendal’s backline before seeing his powerful effort on goal tipped away for a corner.

Kendal had plenty of opportunities to score as the first half progressed, with Gaul's free kick going over the bar, while Seear was denied by Harrogate shot stopper James Webster on three occasions.

However, Kendal opened the scoring on the stroke of half time when Gaul’s powerful effort rebounded off Webster in the Harrogate goal before Seear slotted the ball home from close range.

Harrogate, though, equalised in first half stoppage time when Nathan James finished past Kitchen. Kendal were caught off guard before a straight ball across the penalty area was powered home by James.

Kendal started the second half with a lot of intensity while Harrogate were unable to get out of their penalty area. The Mintcakes were playing a lot of attacking football while the visitors struggled to get a foothold in the game.

The home team’s dominance was rewarded five minutes into the second half when a corner in from the right hand side was headed home by Seear, who rose highest before nodding the ball past the visiting keeper.

Kendal, from that point, created further chances with Paul Dawson, Gaul and Seear going close.

It was Gaul who sealed the win with 25 minutes left when the former Colne player cut inside from the left before unleashing a deflected effort past Webster.

Charlie Bowman rounded off a good team performance by scoring the fourth goal of the night as Kendal ran out 4-1 winners.

Kendal are away to Hyde United in the second qualifying round on Saturday, September 2, and travel to Radcliffe Borough on Saturday before hosting Clitheroe on Bank Holiday Monday.
