KENDAL Town won their first league match of the season on Saturday in a game of two contrasting halves at Radcliffe Borough.

Following a difficult first half which saw Kendal go in 1-0 down at the break, goals from Charlie Bowman and new signings Ric Seear and John-Paul Stanway turned the match on its head following a slick second-half performance.

The Boro started the liveliest and took an early lead in the ninth minute after nice control and vision by Carl Peers down the right side picked out Theo Brierley who had no problems scoring from close range.

Franny Barry then had a chance to make it two for the hosts after 15 minutes but Mintcakes goalkeeper Will Kitchen was equal to the task.

Peers had a go just after twenty minutes as he looked to beat the keeper at his bottom corner, but his shot was just a little weak and Kitchen could just gather the ball and clear the danger.

Peers was in again soon after this time his shot curled off target after some nice build up play by the home side.

After this, both teams struggled to create any chances and get shots on target in the last fifteen minutes of the half.

A rejuvenated Kendal came out the second half a different side and started to take control of possession and dictate the game. David Foster's team had their first real chance just before the hour mark when Bowman timed his run perfectly to latch onto a ball over the top of the Boro defence. He looked to catch Ryan Jones out as he was caught off his line, but Bowman’s shot was off target.

Kendal finally did get the equaliser as the Boro defence just couldn’t withstand the pressure any longer. Bowman could simply tap the ball home after a lovely move started by a cracking ball over the top by Ben Thomas picked out Seear who then returned it back to Thomas. His cross picked out Matthew Clarke whose shot was saved, but the ball was crossed back in and Bowman was there to bring the scores level.

In the 80th minute Kendal got the lead their efforts deserved. Clarke made a fantastic dart down the wing and he picked out Seear who converted his chance from close range.

The visitors then wrapped up the game in the 87th minute. After Boro were caught pushing too many players forward looking for the equaliser to rescue a point from the game, Stanway ran at the Boro defenders who had stayed back and got past them easily. Jones came rushing off his line to try and meet Stanway but he breezed past him and could simply walk the ball into the goal.
