SAM Staunton-Turner edged Kendal Town to an important 1-0 victory against Ossett Town at The ST&B Accountants Stadium on Saturday.

His 34th minute opener proved to be the difference in an otherwise uneventful encounter, with Kendal picking up their first win in four games.

The Mintcakes made a confident start in blizzard-like conditions against an Ossett side that were playing their first game since February 24.

The hosts played the ball forward and pressed the visitors back while Gareth Arnison forced a comfortable save out of Ossett Keeper Overton.

Ossett's only opportunity fell to Anthony Mackie who saw his goal-bound effort parried round the post by Matthew Johnson.

Kendal opened the scoring when a well-worked move saw Matthew Clarke play the ball into the feet of Staunton-Turner who unleashed a clinical effort into the right hand corner of the net.

The home team were nearly 2-0 up at the break when Charlie Bowman forced another save out of Overton.

Kendal controlled the second half while Ossett struggled to retain any possession in the attacking third.

Staunton-Turner created Kendal’s only opportunity during the second half but the midfielder blazed the ball over the bar, while Ossett's best chance fell to Alex Pearce whose headed effort on goal was punched away by Johnson.

Kendal played the rest of the second half with maturity and discipline, while the game was contested in midfield.

Ossett could have stolen a point when they created a half chance in injury time, but Sean Ripley fired a tame effort straight into the hands of Johnson in the Kendal goal when he was well placed.

But Kendal saw out the last two minutes of injury time to picked up the three points.

Kendal travel to bottom of the table Goole on Saturday before entertaining Atherton Collieries on Tuesday night (27 March).
