KENDAL Town lost 3-1 at Ramsbottom United in a controversial encounter on Tuesday that saw both sides reduced to 10 men.

Sam Staunton Turner was sent off after 74 minutes for a late challenge on Dean Stott while Ramsbottom's Jon Robinson was shown the red card five minutes later.

Ramsbottom opened the scoring after 12 minutes when Tom Brooks fired the ball past Matthew Johnson in the Kendal goal.

The lead was short lived, however, as Gary Basterfield scored on 23 minutes as Kendal drew level.

After a relatively quiet start to the second half, Robinson edged Ramsbottom in front on the hour mark, having ran onto a good delivery by Lee Gaskell before slotting the ball past Johnson.

Kendal were reduced to ten men on 74 minutes when Staunton Turner was shown a straight red card after a late challenge on Stott, and the controversy continued when Robinson was sent off.

With both teams down to ten, it was Ramsbottom who secured the win when Phil Dean's powerful free kick nestled into the bottom corner, while Ric Seear missed a penalty in injury time as Kendal crashed to defeat.

Kendal host Glossop North End on Saturday in the team’s last home game of the season, while they travel to play South Shields next Thursday before closing their season on Saturday, April 28 with an away trip to Trafford.
