KENDAL Town 'deserved to win' their latest hard-fought encounter but could only manage a draw away from home.

The Mintcakes travelled to Prescot Cables looking to get back to winning ways but found themselves behind after just four minutes during the clash on Tuesday, October 13.

A corner was not cleared by the Kendal defence and Lloyd Dean was allowed the time to place a looping shot into the top corner of the net.

Despite going a goal down, Kendal pressed and looked dangerous on the attach before equalising on 22 minutes when Jordan Connerton got on the end of a Rob Wilson free kick.

But the Merseyside team regained their lead on the half hour mark when Robert Doran ghosted through Kendal's back line to make it 2-1 to the home side, currently sitting in 15th place in the Evo Stik First Division North.

That goal came against the run of play and Kendal kept the pressure on with Craig Carney peppering the Prescot goal.

On 65 minutes, new signing Terry Cummings, 18, went on a good run, eventually setting-up Connerton for his second.

Young Kendal 'keeper Will Kitchens made a spectacular one handed save in the final minutes to ensure his side went home with what manager Michael Stringfellow called 'a solid point'.

Stringfellow said: "It was a good point away from home in a tough, physical game that I think we deserved to win. We dominated possession but couldn't get that final goal."

Connerton is regarded as one of the finest strikers in the league, and Kendal needed him in this game.

Stringfellow is pleased to see him returning to his best.

"He perhaps hasn't had the high quality performances of last season yet but I'm sure he's going to peak soon," said the Mintcakes boss.

"It will give him confidence going forward and he'll be up there with the top goalscorers in the league - there's a lot more to come from him."

A loss and a draw in successive games has seen Kendal slip to seventh, but there is only a few points separating them and the teams above.

Stringfellow said: "There's a long way to go and I just feel teams will settle down and we'll see who's going to be in the top five. It's hard to judge who'll be up there but we just have to concentrate on ourselves."
