I read Paul Want's letter suggesting that it should have accepted money from a consortium (Letters, February 11, 'Football club must wake up').

Any cash input would come with its own price tag. Nothing is for free.

Kendal Town Football Club is a community club, welcoming young people under 16, free of charge to each home game. It offers a great match day experience to all with good food and hot drinks, plus an excellent range of bar drinks (usually including a local brewery's real ale) at very reasonable 'match day' prices.

The clubhouse is open and screens live sport/football, which everyone is welcome to enjoy. Our ladies' team is one of the best in Cumbria, while our youth squads gives all local talent every chance to shine from the age of nine upwards.

The club is a 'Not for profit' entity. If a profit is made it is returned to the club for improvements and the manager's budget etc.

The current membership is called upon to carry any debt the club incurs. It has to live within its means. The Clark Foundation are generous landlords, but I am certain they would not tolerate a consortium taking over with an initial cash injection, who would want it back with interest.

There are several reasons for the current plight, including the severe bad weather this winter culminating in only three home games being hosted since November and the Chairman's resignation in December.

How do I know all this? My husband was Chairman of Kendal Town Football Club for more than six years, until resigning in December due to ill health.

There are so many good elements and good people still at Kendal Town FC working so hard to make it work, volunteers and supporters alike, despite all the bad press.

Come along and see for yourself and make up your own mind.
