KENDAL Town boss Lee Ashcroft is looking to bolster his attack ahead of Saturday’s crunch promotion clash against Buxton.

Town have lost their last three games, two against promotion rivals, and Ashcroft admits his side are missing talismanic striker Alex Taylor, who has been plagued with a hernia injury for several months.

He said: “We Alex Taylor doesn’t play, Kendal Town don’t play and we need him back as soon as possible.

“Alex’s condition is improving but I am certainly looking to bring in another forward.”

“The difficulty though is getting people to come up to the area but I have my fingers crossed we can have Alex fit for Saturday and he may start against Buxton.”

Ahead of Tuesday night’s game with FC Halifax, Ashcroft signed Southport’s Steve Dickenson as cover for David Newnes, who had a recurrence of a thigh strain against Matlock Town on Saturday, and also Northwich Victoria winger Adam Carden.

He added: “They played well and we have got to get a confidence running through the side. We have 16 or 17 games to go which gives us a lot of points to go after.”

Town’s injury list still includes playmakers Carl Osman and Danny Wisdom, who are both a couple of weeks away with hamstring injuries, while last year’s captain Glenn Steel has moved to AFC Fylde, with loanee Shaun Gray from Southport expected to sign permanently after Saturday’s game against Buxton.
