BRODY MOFFATT scored twice as Kendal County Reserves claimed top spot in Westmorland Football League Division Two with a crushing defeat of depleted Kendal Celtic.

Moffatt struck to complement a Carl Green header and close-range Alec Hague finish as the home side established a commanding half-time lead before the midfielder added gloss to the scoreline.

With this win, Kendal County Reserves establish a three-point lead at the top of the table, taking full advantage of Windermere SC’s game at Endmoor KGR being postponed.

Unisun Athletic remain in third place after beating Kirkby Thore Rangers 2-0, with the Melbourne Park side five points behind the league leaders.

Shap’s fixture at Keswick Reserves also fell victim to the weather, with the only other game seeing fourth-placed Ibis defeated 3-2 at Langwathby United.

In Division One, Burneside have endured a difficult campaign so far and played out a 1-1 draw with Ambleside United Reserves at Hollins Lane – only their fifth point from 13 matches.

At the division’s summit, Wetheriggs United strengthened their position without playing as second-placed Penrith Reserves lost 4-2 at home to Keswick.

Wetheriggs United’s game at Kendal United was postponed as were the clashes between Kirkoswald and Staveley United, Lunesdale United and Carvetii United as well as Sedbergh Wanderers and Appleby.

A meeting of the Westmorland League Executive decided the Peter Daws Memorial Shield and Austinwren Cup competitions are to be played on a league basis this season.

This is due to the small size of divisions three and four and the number of league fixtures already completed – with the first round of fixtures taking place last weekend.

Esthwaite Vale overcame Greystoke 2-1 in the Peter Daws Memorial Shield at Hawkshead Recreation Ground while Kendal Celtic Reserves lost 4-2 at home to Dent.

This was the extent of cup action as the match between Braithwaite and Coniston together with the Windermere SC Reserves clash against Kendal United Reserves were both postponed.

Meanwhile in the Austinwren Cup, Ibis Reserves and Lunesdale United Reserves could not be separated as the pair drew 1-1 while Carleton Banks secured a 4-1 win at Penrith Saints.

The league fixture between Dent Reserves and Penrith Academy together with the cup games between Appleby Reserves and Carvetii United Reserves as well as Greystoke Reserves and Ullswater United were all postponed.
