SKIPPER Scott Santamera highlighted the influence of hotshot duo Will Dolman and Richie Jackson after Windermere rounded off their league campaign in fine style against Macclesfield.

Will Dolman and Jackson both scored twice to take their tallies for the season to 32 and 18 respectively –close to two-thirds of Windermere’s combined total of 80.

And with the South Lakes' champions finishing proceedings as the division’s leading scorers while also boasting the meanest defence, Santamera insists the match was a reflection of the entire season.

“Will has scored a hell of a lot of goals this year, as has Richie who is only about 16 and in his first full season with us,” he said.

“Having those two finding the net left, right and centre has been a huge help.

“It was a nice way to round off the season in general. It was a good game and we played some half decent stuff – in the end it was a fairly easy win.

“It summed up the whole year really. One of the lads pointed out on Saturday that we’ve scored the most in the league and conceded the least.

“And if you’re doing that you aren’t going to be far off come the end of the season. It’s a very pleasing statistic to have in the bank.”

Jackson’s two strikes were enough to see him voted man of the match while Dolman’s double was added to by Santamera himself – the midfielder’s fifth of the campaign.

And with uncertainty currently surrounding the staging of this year’s Cumbria Cup, Santamera is already starting to focus half an eye on next season.

“It would be nice to look forward to that competition and we should find out shortly whether it will be held in April or at the start of next season,” he added.

“We’re training just in case it’s next month but if it’s not to be then Saturday is hardly a bad way to finish.

“Next season will be a little bit of an unknown and the aim really is just to do as well as we possibly can.

“We know we can compete with the likes of Lancaster and Morecambe who have won Division One so I definitely expect us to be in the top half.

“After that we’ll see how things go but we want to be competitive and enjoy it. Being in the top division is a big thing for us.”
