Kendal Ladies Hockey Club crashed to defeat after they lost 5-1 to Whitley Bay and Tynemouth Ladies at Kirkbie Kendal School's Cinderovens Playing Surface.

The Ladies also had to deal with a nasty injury sustained to Ailsa Wright who was hit on the eye by a hockey ball.

Kendal made a bright start to the game and opened the scoring in the first five minutes after Vicky Whalley Jones drilled the ball home from close range.

Nicola Conway’s youthful team had the better of the opening exchanges as they pushed the visitors back into their own half while displaying some good free flowing Hockey.

Whitley Bay began to assert their authority on the game, while Kendal shot stopper Laurel Halliwell pulled of a spectacular diving save to deny the visitors.

However the visitors equalised five minutes later through Joss Plummer whose unstoppable drive on goal went past the keeper.

Once the goal had gone in Kendal defended resolutely, while the visitors continued to attack as the game was tied at half time.

In the second half Whitley Bay overpowered Kendal, and were soon 2-1 ahead after Joss Plummer scored her second of the game before a quick fire goal by Lottie Gill saw Whitley Bay go 3-1 up.

The visitors continued to pile on the misery for the hosts after Sarah Buxton and Emma Davey were also on the score sheet as Kendal crashed to a 5-1 defeat.

Kendal make the short trip to face Kirkby Stephen at the weekend as they look to get some points on the board.

The Ladies second team play Ambleside in the derby game on Saturday with the game starting at 12.30.
