WINDERMERE men maintained their pursuit of Didsbury Northern 3rds at the top of NW Division 6 North with a thumping 7-0 victory over Southport on Saturday.

Mike Hodgson put his side on the winning path when he pounced on a loose ball after the Southport goalkeeper failed to clear his initial shot.

Rob Griffiths then scored at the far post from a short corner routine involving Hodgson and Andy Hartnett, but it was in the second half that the floodgates opened.

Scott Santamera lifted a half-cleared ball over the goalkeeper to make it three. Peter Simm made it four with a sweet strike, just inside the post, at another penalty corner.

Windermere were passing the ball confidently and, with Jordan Field and Sam Crompton providing great width, were totally in command. Hodgson got his second goal of the game to make it five before Chris Goodchild went on a solo run, sweeping the ball into goal after his first strike was beaten out.

Finally, Field angled a ball into the top corner of the net from a hard-driven ball into the D to make it seven.

Tomorrow (Saturday) sees Windermere at home to Cheetham Hill (1pm pushback).

WINDERMERE'S Sunday Association team beat GSK South Lakes (Glaxo) 6-2. Star man was Steve Gibson with a hat-trick and other goals were scored by Ed Evans (2) and Jake Sanders. Scorers for GSK were Adam Kendall and John McEwan.
