LAKES School Under-14 boys’ hockey team are celebrating having become North-West and Cumbrian school champions after a 5-0 win over The Wirral GS on Monday evening earned them a place in the north of England finals on February 1.

The U14s had earlier recorded a 3-0 triumph in the County Schools’ U14 final against Windermere St Annes.

That success sees the U14s team emulated the achievement of the school’s U16 boys side, who became champions of their age group after beating Kirkbie Kendal in a tight final that was decided on penalty flicks.

Both victorious hockey teams share a strong family link, with four pairs of brothers split between them.

Older brothers Jordan Fields, Dom Musetti, Dennis Jackson and William Doleman all helped the U16s on to victory in November.

Cold weather and frozen pitches meant that younger siblings Oliver Fields, Louis Musetti, Harry and Richard Jackson and Tom Doleman had to wait six weeks before emulating their brothers’ success.

The U14s had made it to the final after winning a preliminary tournament in Carlisle in early December.

After emerging Cumbria champions thanks to a hat-trick of goals from skipper Harry Jackson, the U14s go into the North-West regional final, where they play Wirral Grammar School.

Meanwhile the U16 squad, who also go into the regional finals and face an away game at Caldy Grange.
