UNBEATEN Windermere Ladies went ot the top of the table with a 3-2 home victory over Blackburn’s Witton Warrior in the Central Lancs League.

In a hard-fought battle, Rachael Roberts put Windermere ahead. Right wing Chloe Field put over serveral good crosses but they went unconverted, while the Windermere defence worked so well that the keeper didnnot have a touch in the first half.

Witton came back to equalise in the second half, but an unstoppable strike from Laura Howarth from a penalty corner restored Windermere’s lead at 2-1. Witton again applied presure and field, now in goal, mnade some cool stops.

Howarth struck again to make it 3-1 and the visitors’ skipper added her second to ensure Windermere were kept up to their work right to the end.

n Windermere’s development squad beat Kendal 3-1 in a Netherwood League fixture. Vicky Bowe cancelled out a Kendal scoreand captain Jess McAvoy put them ahead. A Laura Howarth goal sealed the victory with youngsters Katie Andrews and Inida Clark impressive.
