A VINTAGE chic calendar has been created by Kendal Ladies Hockey Club to raise funds for a minibus to get players and officials to away matches.

The girls reached the final of the Adult Knockout Trophy in Essex last season and following the success, officials realised that the club’s travelling needs had to be improved.

Player and chief fundraising officer Louise Phillips said: “We did quite well in reaching a national final last year but it highlighted that travelling costs could be quite high for the girls and with younger members coming into the first team we realised a need to raise funds.

“A couple of us had a think about ideas and asked the girls about doing a calendar.”

The club’s recent success saw them promoted to North Women’s Hockey League Division One, where they finished fourth last season, and now the club hopes to raise enough money for a minibus for away travel.

“Our aim is to raise as much money towards a bus as possible but also to raise the profile of the club,” said Ms Phillips.

She said the club was inviting sponsorship from local businesses and already Furmanite, the Bryce Institute and Steve Selby Building Contract-ors have come on board, and the calendar will cost just £5.

At the end of August the club held its photoshoot around Burneside with Levens photographer Glynis Bland, which Louise said the girls really enjoyed.

She said: “We are keeping things under wraps until the launch night but 14 of us got made up and had a brilliant day.”

The calendar will be launched at Kendal Golf Club on Saturday, October 23, from 7pm, with a catwalk, disco and a competition.
