GRAND National sponsors John Smith’s will be at Cartmel for the first time when they are backing two races on ‘John Smith’s Summer Barbecue Day’ on Thursday, July 16.

“We are delighted to have concluded a deal with John Smith’s making Cartmel the 13th racecourse on which they currently sponsor and we shall make them very welcome on July 16” said racecourse manager Shaun Hodgson.

To mark the sponsorship, John Smith’s are offering a ‘Punter’s Package’, which is now available from all their pubs and clubs.

For just £15, customers can get Paddock admission to the meeting plus a racecard, a £2 Tote voucher and a free pint of John Smith’s.

Another feature of the day will be the return of the highly popular School Leavers Hobby Horse Race when four pupils of local schools will take on four jockeys in a hobby horse race over the last furlong or so of the course.

The race will be held at around 1.15pm.

The seven-race card at Cartmel gets underway with the first race at 2pm.
