LIFELONG Blackburn Rovers supporter Paul Clarkson has named a racehorse Big Sam after Rovers Manager Sam Allardyce.

The horse, a big, unraced five-year-old, good looking bay gelding by Conclude out of Geegee Emmarr is in training with Martin Todhunter at Orton.

‘Sam’, who has been pleasing his trainer in his home work, is expected to make his racecourse debut in a hurdle race next month.

In the longer term ‘Sam’ is expected to make up into a staying chaser and who knows that one day he could be lining up in the world’s greatest Steeplechase – The Grand National.

Paul, together with his partner Stella Barclay, bred Sam at their stud farm and livery yard near Garstang in Lancashire. Paul is employed by the Northern racecourses as Raceday Presenter (Master of Cerermonies) on racedays and when he is not racing he can usually be found at Ewood Park cheering on the Rovers on matchdays.

Sam Allardyce is a keen follower of the ‘Sport of Kings’ and has enjoyed a number of successes as an owner including with European Dream a winner of ten races to date.

If any Rovers fan or racing enthusiast who would like to receive further details about how to get involved and/or to go and see Big Sam on the gallops prior to his first run, then please contact Paul Clarkson on 01995 605790.
