Racing - Apostle can sprout wings

KING'S APOSTLE has been waiting in the wings for a suitable opening since was looked an unlucky loser in the Stewards Cup and a Newmarket Listed Race today does not look beyond him.

The 3,05 race at Headquarters has attracted a very useful type in Winter Watson, who will probably goes off as favourite, but these open-age six-furlong sprints are usually won by specialists - and Winker has yet to prove himself that.

King's Apostle has that admirable ability of being able to be held up and showing a burning kick at the end of his races - it make him a difficult ride but his odds of around 13-2 make it worth risking.

The Juddmonte International thankfully has been saved from York's abandoned meeting and now takes place at Newmarket.

Duke of Marmalade will be favourite, but Jim Bolger's NEW APPROACH has always look pure class, and that opinion was confirmed when he blitzed the Derby field at Epsom.

A drop back two frulongs will not inconvenience him and providing he has got his nerves under control, he must surely be worth supporting at 2-1 to end the Aidan O'Brien dominance of the top-class races.TUNGSTEN STRIKE looks the best bet at Goodwood and trotted up by six lengths here last season.

Only beaten by Yeats in the Ascot Gold Cup, that form should be good enough to see a repeat of last year's success.

Cartmel's meeting throws up some difficult contests and apart from SOUDAWOUDACOUDA, who looks a different class in the 3.25, there is little confidence in selecting elsewhere.

BORDER TALE gets the each-way vote for local trainer Jimmy Moffatt in the 4.35, though the stable jockey is on his other entry Risk Runner, who also looks well in at the weights.
