World stars to head for the Oval

4:26pm Wednesday 22nd August 2001

The world's greatest cricketers will be on show at the AMP Oval on Tuesday, September 18 in a re-match of Asia versus the Rest of the World.

Asia will be gunning for revenge after the world team won a tight match by 15 runs last summer in front of a packed house of 18,500.

This year Indian superstar Sachin Tendulkar will skipper Asia in the one-day, 50-over a side match against a team captained by Surrey stalwart Alec Stewart.

Other superstars signed up for Asia include India's Rahul Dravid, Harbhajan Singh, VVS Laxman, Sourav Ganguly, Anil Kumble and Javagal Srinath and Pakistan stars Wasim Akram, Aamer Sohail and Moin Khan

They will be up against a side containing Englishmen Stewart, Graham Thorpe and Andy Caddick, Aussies Adam Gilchrist and Jason Gillespie plus the West Indies' Jimmy Adams, Courtney Walsh and Rion King.

Surrey president John Major said: I am delighted at the prospect of having another opportunity to watch the world's best play against each other.

With the demanding international fixture schedule it is exceedingly rare for this type of event to take place. Having this calibre of players taking part is a wonderful achievement for Surrey County Cricket Club.

Last year's fixture between the two sides provided some magical cricketing moments for the sell out crowd as the Rest of the World won in the final over, and I have no doubt that, this year, we will experience similar drama on the pitch.

A limited number of tickets are still available priced between £15 and £30.

To book please call the Ticket Office on 020 7582 7764. Corporate hospitality is available from Anna Groves on 020 7820 5740.
