ORIENTEERS made the long journey to the Moray coast for two days of top-class competition in Culbin Forest.
The pine-covered sand dunes and areas of thicker forest provided a worthy test to find the 2008 individual British champions on day one and relay champions on day two.
Lakeland OC's Beryl Offley and Verena Johnston became W55 and W70 Champions. Others mounting the podium on day one were ex-LOC junior Will Spain, now at Sheffield University, first on M21Long; Sarah Jones (BARRO) and Katie Wright (LOC) second and third on W12A and Warrior Anne Salisbury third W50L.
Lakeland's Julia Bing W16B, Rachel Turner W40S and Derek Allison M50S were all first in their classes.
Veteran Maurice Collett was second in the M80 class although qualifying to compete as an M85 had this class been available.
On day two the Lakeland OC team of Jackie Chapman, Judy Burge and Beryl Offley became W50 Relay Champ-ions The junior girls team of Kelly Raymond, Amelia Elliott and Jessica Courtman were third in W14 class, with James Allison, William and Patrick Rigg third in M/W12.

n FIVE hundred competitors faced tricky navigation in woodland surrounding Bigland Hall, Newby Bridge, at Lakeland OC's Regional Standard Event.
Warrior's Andy Hyslop had enough stamina left at the end of his course to take advantage of the fast running over open ground to win the M45 Long class with LOC's Bob Stewardson winning M75L.
LOC winning juniors were Zephan Buck on JM5 Short and Philip Metcalfe JM5 Medium. BARRO's Sean Penellum, Sarah and Laura Jones were winners on JM2, JW3 and JW4.
Other local competitors took leading places across the age classes, all LOC except where stated, were: Senior Men's classes: Iain-Smith Ward and Nick Howlett were 3rd and 9th on M40L; R. Wilson and R. Tiley 5th and 6th on M50L; J. Nash 8th M55L; D. Binks WAROC and S. Buckley 8th and 10th M60L; M. Bragg 4th M21S; C. Harrod 2nd M35S; A. Whitehead WAROC and A. Bramwell WAROC 4th and 5th M40S; G. Farley 7th M45S; D. Allison and R. Browne 3rd and 4th M50S; J. Pullin 4th M55S.
Senior Women's classes: L. Campbell WAROC and A. Salisbury WAROC were 4th and 5th on W21L; H. Livesey 7th M40L; J. Chapman and P. Richardson 2nd and 9th W50L; J. Nash and A. Wilson 3rd and 8th W55L; H. Neild 4th W60L; R. Turner and L. Harrod 2nd and 4th W40S; R. Halsey WAROC 3rd W50S; M. Buckley 3rd W60S.
Junior classes: S. and J. Allison were 4th JM2 and 6th JM3; M. Penellum BARRO, M. Buck and S. Storey BARRO were 6th, 7th and 8th on JM4; A. Cheung, S. Bragg, T. Lawson and S. Austin BARRO 4th, 6th, 8th and 9th JM5L; J. Bragg and C. Edmunds BARRO 4th and 5th JM5M; J. Austin BARRO and J. Filmore 2nd and 3rd JM5S; N. and C. Beadle were both 5th on JW3 and JW4 with C. McKenny 6th on JW4.
n THE previous day the final event in the Spring series of short courses was staged on Haverthwaite Heights, a steep-sided wooded area.
LOC's Iain Smith-Ward and Warrior's Liz Campbell were winners in the M40 and Women's Open classes.
