A GREAT turnout from Kendal AC athletes for the Cumbria County Track and Field Championships led to a series of impressive performances at the Sheepmount track in Carlisle on Saturday.
At the end of the day Kendal came away with 28 medals - their best haul for over five years.
Team Captain Danny Parkinson continued his good start to the season by leading from start to finish in a very strong 5,000m to take the gold in 15min 20sec, a new personal best by 22 seconds.
Team-mate Kieran Alderson finished just outside the medals in the same race, fourth in 16-29.
Parkinson was also never headed to take another gold in the 1500m in 4-14.
Among the Junior Men, Matthew Wright had a brilliant day, taking medals in all three events he contested: gold in the discus with 25m00 and silvers in the high jump (1m75) and long jump (6.33m).
Luc Morgan in the same age group had a good javelin throw (36m34) to take the bronze.
At Under-17 Men's level, Matthew Lishman raced to a 400m silver in 59.9sec, while in the 1500m in-form Patrick Vicary smashed 12 seconds off his personal-best in 4min 30sec.
Making his club debut in the same race Scott Thwaites earned a new personal-best in 4-33.
Kendal's Under-15 boys shone with Luke Ingham taking the 800m gold in 2-16 and a new pb, while team-mate Tom Hartley took the bronze in 2-28 also a pb.
Callum Blakie finished fourth in the 200m final in 26-6.
In the 1500m Sam Till pipped team-mate Mikey Hoyle to the bronze in 4-44, leaving Mikey to take fourth in 4-45.
At Under-13 level Ben Till just missed out on a medal with a fourth in the 800m.
Isaac Medhurst had a great day in the Under-11 events, securing two gold medals in the 60m (9.3) and the long jump (3.75), which was a pb.
In the Senior Women, sisters Claire and Katie Huck battled all afternoon in the long jump.
Claire jumped 5m10 to earn the gold over Katie, who managed 4m90 for the silver. Both girls also took part in the 100m hurdles. Claire just outsprinted Katie at the finish to take silver in 16-5. Katie finished a tenth of a second adrift in 16.6, good enough to take the bronze.
In the Under-15 Girls Elidih Sproul captured gold in a very competitive 800m, pushing her to a personal -best of 2-28.
Nina Smart earned two bronze medals: in the shot with a throw of 6m71 and in the 100m hurdles. Rebecca Garnett threw 13m37 in the javelin to take a bronze.
Kendal had a great day in the Under-13 Girls as Heather Ramsay earned a bronze in the 80m (11.6).
In addition, Jessica Hodsman took two bronzes - in the 150m (21-5) and the long jump (4m33) Ahead of Jessica in the long jump was team-mate Sally Scott whose leap of 4m.24, a pb, secured the silver.
Chloe Halhead also set a new pb in the 800m in 2-51, Under-11 girl Lucy Richardson took gold in the 60m in 9.3sec. She just missed out in the long jump with a fourth in a pb of 3m20.
Milly Morgan earned a silver medal in the 600m in 1-59. while Jade Fancourt reached the 60m final and set a pb of 9.9sec.
The athletes' next test will be the Mid-Lancs meeting at Hyndburn on Saturday, May 31.
