"THIS week's Cumbria Cup final seems almost anti-climactic after winning the league and every league match," writes Kendal Director of Rugby Chris Hayton.

"Striving every week to win has built pressure albeit gradually.

"As the players try to improve week on week, and the coaches, Bully and Dave work to improve plays or develop new strategies, the pressure creeps up.

"With one match to play Hoani Moore at No.15 still hadn't scored a try. With at least a half a dozen moves designed to put him into space, none had so far come off despite hours on the training field. Then at last on Saturday bingo! - Hoani scores and an audible sigh of relief went up from the players and coaches alike.

"After the first it all appeared so easy and he scores another three. He's cracked it.

"The bad news is that he flew home on Tuesday and will be scoring his tries for North Harbour this week!

"Nick 'Noodles' McKain also flew home this week and with international clearance forms hurriedly scanned and e-mailed, he will be playing in New Zealand this week as well. Such is the sporting world of today.

"How we lift ourselves this week is going to be the problem. The after effects of Saturday's party/leaving-do will have worn off, but the high that everyone felt at the club on a double championship winning weekend will be hard to come down from.

"Aspatria will know this and will hope to catch us out.

"The wily Mike Scott and enduring Adrian Bateson both have the experience to be able to impress upon their team that this is their chance.

"We have been able to pick our strongest available team and Dan Stephens is now recovered from his bout of tonsillitis and will start.

"The battle of wits between him and Mike will be tasty.

"Cup rugby is about one game only, a quick stir-fry compared to the long simmering stew that is the league.

"Whatever the outcome it will be mouth watering."

The Story Cumbria Cup final is at Penrith Rugby Club tomorrow (3pm kick-off). The team bus leaves Kendal Rugby Club at 12.45pm followed by the supporters' bus at 1pm.
