KENDAL’S James Ellison admits his latest foray onto the global stage has not exactly gone to plan, but he remains convinced that some home comforts in the MCE Insurance British Superbike ranks can make sure he takes on the world next season.

Ellison, 30, made his first domestic appearance of the season at Oulton Park last weekend, but the heavens rained on his comeback parade as the Team sorrymate.com Honda rider finished 11th in the first race before the second was abandoned due to wet weather.

Ellison had not missed the Cheshire rain while abroad on the World Supersport tour and he conceded that he was not satisfied with sitting 12th after eight rounds of that competition.

As a result he took the decision to combine the rest of the World Supersport season with the BSB – and Ellison still believes he can prove he is worthy of a World Superbike ride next year.

“I’m here to do the best I can for the team and all the sponsors,” said Ellison.

“Things haven’t gone to plan in World Supersport, we’ve had a few technical problems there and it’ll be nice to get to some decent runs under my belt.

“I’m still 100 per cent committed to the World Supersport team, but my aim was always go out and get a World Superbike ride, so when this opportunity came it seemed perfect.

“This is a chance to get on a superbike and show everyone on the world stage that I can still ride a superbike and hopefully it’ll be enough to land me a right in World Superbikes next year.”

While Ellison can boast two full seasons in the MotoGP paddock between 2005 and 2006, his World Superbike career has been restricted to sporadic cameo appearances.

But he admits that while the MotoGP may appear to many to be the cream of the crop, his life-long ambition is to ride a full season in the World Superbikes – and he believes he has every chance next year.

“We’ve all got hopes and dreams and mine is to land a long-term contract in World Superbikes,” he added.

“I’m just going out there and ride the best I can at the minute, which isn’t easy in this weather. I know why I left now!

“It was tough because track conditions were really bad for the races.

“You can’t get any grip so the majority of the field were either crashing or trying their best just to stay on the track.”
