American entertainer Will Smith looks set to perform the official World Cup song for Russia 2018.

Smith will release a new song for the tournament on Friday, Billboard and Vibe magazines reported, which he is said to have recorded along with fellow American Nicky Jam and Kosovar singer Era Istrefi.

Here, Press Association Sport takes a look at some of the most memorable World Cup songs.

World in Motion – New Order, England, 1990

Arguably one of the best World Cup songs, Mancunian band New Order – helped by a guest rap solo from then England winger John Barnes – secured the group’s only UK number one. The song went on to be re-released for the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan but it failed to enter the top 40.

Nessun Dorma – Luciano Pavarotti, Italia 90

The haunting aria sung by Luciano Pavarotti became synonymous with Italia 90 after the BBC used it for its tournament coverage. The operatic piece of music became so popular that it re-entered the UK Singles chart and reached number two – cementing its place as unofficial anthem of the World Cup.

Ally’s Tartan Army – Andy Cameron, Scotland, 1978

Scottish comedian Andy Cameron released this novelty record following Scotland’s qualification for the 1978 World Cup in Argentina. It was named after team manager Ally MacLeod and the fans – aka the Tartan Army – and reached number six in the charts.

Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) – Shakira, 2010

Shakira was the voice behind the official song of the 2010 tournament in South Africa. While her native Colombia did not qualify for the World Cup finals she still had reason to celebrate, as she met her partner and father of her two children, Spain defender Gerard Pique, during the filming of the video for the song.

La Copa Da La Vida (The Cup of Life) – Ricky Martin, France ’98

Ricky Martin’s unofficial anthem to France ’98 remains a World Cup classic. If you can listen to it without wanting to dance and/or kick a ball around then are you even a football fan?
