420 – international appearances, with 114 Tests, 228 ODIs and 78 T20Is.

53.50 – De Villiers’ ODI batting average is the fourth-highest ever and is higher than his Test mark of 50.66.

1,061 – Test runs in 2008, at an average of 58.94. He added 996 in 2010.

31 – De Villiers holds the record for the fewest balls taken to reach 100 in an ODI, set in January 2015 against the West Indies. He went on to make 149 off 44 with 16 sixes and nine fours.

16 – he equalled another ODI record with that tally of maximums – matching Rohit Sharma and equalled again soon afterwards by Chris Gayle, with both players scoring double-centuries.

1 – De Villiers was the year-end world number one Test batsman in both 2013 and 2014, and achieved the feat four times in ODIs. He finishes his career ranked sixth in the longest format and second in ODIs.

3,953 – De Villiers is 10th in the all-time run-scoring list in the Indian Premier League. He has three centuries for Royal Challengers Bangalore and his unbeaten innings of 133 and 129 are the third- and fourth-highest scores in the IPL’s history.

0 – total byes conceded by De Villiers in Australia’s scores of 565 for five declared at Brisbane and 550 at Adelaide in November 2012. Australia scored 1,345 runs in the series before the first byes, which came when a Rory Kleinveldt delivery feathered James Pattinson’s off stump, did not dislodge a bail and squirted past the wicketkeeper to the boundary.

2 – both of De Villiers’ first-class wickets came in a 2005 Test against the West Indies. He added seven in limited-overs cricket, which also all came for his country.
