WINDERMERE Lawn Tennis Club is looking forward to a bright future after receiving £28,000 from Sport England.

The money will pay for the refurbishment of the club’s facilities in Queens Park, Windermere, with the surface to be levelled and recoated. The courts will receive new posts and nets plus new perimeter fencing.

Committee member Pauline Kirk said it was superb news for the club and it meant they could draw in more youngsters to ensure the future of tennis in the area. She added: “In Windermere we have the lake but we have very few sports facilities for ordinary people. We hope this work will take us forward and in particular our junior teams.

“In the next year we really want to work on our junior section and we are hoping to put on a lot of free coaching, which will include going into schools.”

The Sport England grant has been awarded through the association’s Inspired Facilities Fund which is working to fulfil the Olympic and Paralympic legacy.

When the work is complete, hopefully before the February half-term, the site will carry the London 2012 Inspire mark.
