ULVERSTON swimmers made the trip to Sheffield to compete in Rotherham Swimming Club’s popular Open Short Course Meet and came away with a host of medals and personal best times.

Spectacular performances from Taylor Aplin, Nicola Capstick and Joshua Turner produced a total of eighteen medals between them and were never out of the top three in all their events.

Aplin struck gold in the 50m Butterfly sprint, 100m Freestyle and Individual Medley.

She recorded another outstanding win in the 100m Butterfly but was forced to work in the 50m Butterfly as she snatched gold by a fingertip. She completed her day with a creditable Bronze for her 100 Backstroke.

Capstick too was in dazzling form storming to gold in the 50m Butterfly sprint before doubling her medal tally in the 50m Backstroke.

Her hat trick came with gold in the 100m Individual Medley before silver success came in the 50m Freestyle, 100m Backstroke, 100m Butterfly and before bronze in the 100m Freestyle.

Meanwhile 12-year-old Turner eased to gold in the 100m Individual Medley and the 100m Butterfly. In a close finish in the 50m Butterfly he had to settle for Silver, whilst a bronze for his 100 Freestyle settled his account for the day.

Breaststroke specialists Rhiannon Ellis and Niall Cush both enjoyed great success in their main events. Ellis’s superior sprinting took her to gold in the 50m and followed with another fine swim to win silver in the 100m.

She then went on to pick up Bronze medals for 100m Butterfly and 100m Individual Medley.

Cush had to dig deep into his reserves to snatch the 50m Gold in a desperately close finish, whilst he then had to settle for silver in the 100m.
