AMBLESIDE came out on top in a tough physical battle against Kirkby Lonsdale Second Team.

It proved to be a bruising encounter at Galava Park on Saturday, November 1, with both teams showing great commitment in attack and defence.

From the first scrum the formidable Ambleside back row of White, Stephenson and Bubb showed their intent by driving the Kirkby eight back.

They secured a turn over ball and from the following scrum they forced a penalty.

Stephenson made no mistake from the resulting kick and Ambleside found themselves 3-0 up.

Another penalty for Ambleside went narrowly wide soon after.

The game ebbed and flowed without any real opportunities for the remainder of the half as both teams' defensive lines kept scoring opportunities to a minimum.

At the half time break it was still 3-0 to Ambleside.

The home side were growing in confidence and stand off and centres were starting to take ground in the Kirkby half.

A flowing move down the back line saw Simeon Lee beat his man to score out on the right wing.

Rob Thomason was starting to dictate the pace of the game now and after a missed penalty quick a recycled ball by the Ambleside forwards saw the play switched to the opposite wing where hooker Greg Stephenson was waiting to power over for the final score of the game.

Both teams put in a committed performance in front of a good crowd who can see Ambleside playing Furness in the cup at Galava park this Saturday at 2:15pm.
