KENDAL's A team bagged their first league win of the season in style by beating previously unbeaten league leaders Carlisle A 3-2 in a closely contested home fixture.

Excellent squash from Kendal’s number one Ben Welton led to a notable win over Dave Box 17-15, 15-10, 12-15, 15-12.

Steve Edmondson, playing at two, won in four as Robin Ridley retired injured. At number three Andy Chant kept pace with Ben Heatherington taking the match all the way but could not claim the vital fifth game. Alistair Pease lost in straight games at number four but the fifth string rubber went convincingly to Kendal as Graham Braithwaite claimed his first win of the season with a victory in straight sets. Despite the upset, Carlisle A retain their place at the top of the league but Carlisle B and Whitehaven A are hard on their heels.

Kendal lie in seventh place but will be hoping this result will kick start a revival.
