RUNNERS were serenaded by carol-singing marshals during a Santa-special event at Fell Foot Park near Newby Bridge on Saturday.

More than 120 runners turned up for the 10th weekly park run, many wearing festive outfits decorated with tinsel. A group of singers, with sheet music and harmonies, including run director Ron Eadington, sang carols at the meadow gate, while the timekeepers played upbeat Christmas music at the finish line.

Afterwards the runners gathered around a firepit in the grounds and feasted on mince pies and mulled wine.

Mr Eadington said: β€œIt was great to see so many enjoying the Christmas spirit. We have established a really good event here and our course has become a favourite among parkrunners from all over the country.”

The first runner back was Alasdair Rusell who is the course record holder.

The next parkrun at Fellfoot is on Jan 3 at 9am. The runs are five kilometres, and entry is free, though participants need to register online and print a barcode. www.parkrun.org.uk
