BINGLEY'S Rob Jebb won the fourth Kendal Winter League fixture of the season after battling through the customary mud that makes Whitestones at Staveley-in-Cartmel such a strength-sapping race.

Jebb, who lives in Staveley, clocked 29-59 as he crossed the line 21 seconds head of Ambleside veteran John Atkinson (30-20) with Rusland's Oscar Meanwell - a winner at Firbank recently - just seven seconds further adrift. Series leader Keiran Hodgson of Helm Hill was fourth and second V40 in 30-33.

Howgill's Heidi Dent won the ladies' race in 35-09 with Helm Hill's Sharon Taylor (35-24) in hot pursuit. There were 125 finishers.

Helm Hill's Ben Kent (11-15) led home the U17s with 11 seconds to spare from Rossendale's Marcus Pready with Helm's Jacob Aubrey (11-30) settling for third. Lancaster and Morecambe's Scarlet Dale won the girls' race in 12-13 and was a very creditable fifth overall.

Three seconds separated the leading pair in the U14 boys' race with Ilkley's Euan Brennan (7-41) just getting the better of Helm Hill's Robert Askew with Broughton's Ben Edmondson (7-51) a close third.

Helm Hill's Katie Thurlow (9-08) had a more comfortable victory in the U14 girls' race by putting almost a minute between her and team mates Maia Doherty (10-00) and Lottie Beardwood (10-06).

Eden's Charlie Harding was first U12 boy in 6-11 after out-sprinting Wharfedale's Sam Smith (6-13) and Ambleside's Harry Bowen (6-15). Ambleside's Chloe Rylance (6-36) was not too far adrift of the leading boys in winning the girls' race. She was seventh overall and showed Keighley and Craven's Lilli Carr (7-05) and Wharfedale's Charlotte Barrett (7-12) a clean pair of heels.
