EH U18s Plate

Doncaster U18s 2

Windermere U18s 3

WINDERMERE u18s progressed to the quarter final of the England Hockey Plate with a worthy win in South Yorkshire over Doncaster.

Three penalty corner strikes by Richie Jackson, and a penalty stroke save by keeper Josh Quinn eventually proved decisive after Doncaster fought back from two-nil down.

Man of the match was one of the team’s youngest players, Ed Brownell, who gave an outstanding display in an unfamiliar role as attacking left back.

Huddersfield Dragons U18s and Deeside Ramblers did not play their tie last weekend because of a frosted pitch at Lockwood in Huddersfield.

They will now play next Sunday, and Windermere host the winners at Troutbeck Bridge on March 1.

Southport 1

Windermere 2

Windermere maintained their three-point gap at the top with a workmanlike win at the seaside.

Steve Heyns opened Mere’s account with a penalty corner strike. Southport levelled but a Will Dolman drag flick at another penalty corner secured maximum points for the Lakes side.

Wilmslow are still snapping at Mere’s heels, however, as they beat Wigan 9-0 to remain second with just six games remaining for both sides.
