AMBLESIDE student Alex Moore was crowned Elite Men's champion at the final of the Marmot Masters Bouldering Series at Kendal Wall.

After the success of the Marmot Masters Series in 2014, the Shap Road venue hosted the final of the 2015 Series earlier this month.

All three rounds have proved hugely popular with over 100 energetic and talented climbers from all over the North West and North East taking part in each round.

The competition is accessible to all climbing abilities, with competitors separated into categories, so that everyone had a chance of winning a coveted Marmot prize.

Competitors had to complete 20 set boulder problems within four hours.

The difficulties ranged from beginner through to problems that would have tested the very best climbers in the country.

The competition setters included British Bouldering Champion Dave Barrans together with Andy Owen, Sam Gore and Will Jackson.

Combining Dave’s powerful and flexible style with the venue's in-house team gave a great mix of problems for competitors to test their strength, power, technique, flexibility, balance and mental fortitude.

Moore took the Elite Men’s top spot with a very strong performance throughout.

Junior GB Team member Kitty Morrison from Clapham won the Elite Women’s category at only 13 years old whilst Runcorn based climber Jess Eatwell had a great night to take the Premier Women’s category.

The Veteran Men’s category is always popular and closely fought, but this year Neil Davies pushed away from the field to win by a landslide.

“The Marmot Masters has gone from strength to strength, with new innovations, new routes and an all-round better customer experience being the focus each year," said route setting manager Simon Bennett.

"Next year will see us bring “live streaming of the event” throughout the climbing wall so other customers can share in the atmosphere. It will bring bigger prizes and big name setters.

"Watch this space, as good times are expected for the future. This year was the first time that the whole event was filmed, enabling more people to be able to see what the competition is all about, we want to encourage even more people to take part next year."

The Lakeland Climbing Centre said they would like to thank their sponsors Marmot, Lyon Equipment and Sound Smith Audio.

The competition problems will be left up at the Wall for the next couple of months so anyone can experience the challenge.
