KENDAL’S Isabel Kirk says she’s brimming with confidence for the rest of the Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships after clinching a podium finish in the Super-G.
More than 100 skiers took to the sun-kissed slopes of Tignes on Monday for the Super-G race, which had been postponed over the weekend due to poor weather conditions.
And in the National Junior Championships run, Kirk finished second in the British Under-18 category to take away a silver from day one.
That’s despite admittedly not enjoying the best of seasons so far – and the Kirkbie Kendal School student believes more success is lying in wait.
“I was pretty happy with it, I’ve not trained much Super-G this season so it’s been a good day – I can take a lot of confidence into the rest of the week,” she said.
“I’ve done a lot of gym work and feel a lot of stronger, last year I wasn’t confident and my skiing wasn’t very good but it’s much better now.
“I’ve not had very good results this year but I’m still enjoying it, I just want to carry on enjoying it and score some good points.”
Following the success of the Great Britain team at Sochi 2014 and with the support of Snowsport England’s national participation campaign GO SKI GO BOARD, it has been a tremendous year for British winter sports.
GO SKI GO BOARD started in September 2013 and more than 40,000 new people had taken at least one taster or coaching session through the campaign by the end of last year.
Kirk’s been on skis for as long as she can remember – and admits the British Championships is one of the highlights of the year.
She added: “Tignes is great, they’ve done a very good job of preparing it. It was a shame about the weather over the weekend but Monday was perfect and the British Championships are always fun.”
