DAVID Barber reclaimed the Kendal Squash Club Championship, ousting current holder Ben Welton 17/15, 15/10, 15/11.

A good crowd enjoyed the opportunity to see the club’s top players battle it out in a game of long rallies and tight squash.

David first won the title in 1989, reclaiming it in 2000 and 2008 but injury has ruled him out of recent competitions. His young opponent has held the title for the last two years but despite a hamstring injury fought hard to hand on the trophy.

In the Cumbria B Cup Final, Kendal C lost 4-1 to home side Windscale. Kendal’s best performance came from Russ Lilliebridge playing at three who lost 1-3.

At five Ian Garnett pulled back from two games down to take the match into the fifth, but could not maintain his momentum, losing 11-15 in the decisive game.

Chris Hoyle, Gary Major and Joel Howse all lost in three. The C team have been remarkably consistent, with the same five players turning out in every match this season.

Russ Lilliebridge won Kendal’s team player of year award.
