THREE junior sailors from Killington Sailing Association won the Anderson Cannon Trophy at the Southport Junior Nationals Chay Turner-Richard (Carlisle), Katherine Fleck (Sedbergh), James and George Thomas (Killington Village) claimed first place in the Under 18s Bosun Dinghy and were third place overall.

The talented sailors, all pupils at Sedbergh School, battled for six hours to claim their silverware and finish 15th place overall in the series - nine places higher than last year.

James Thomas gave the team an almost perfect start leaving all the other Bosuns in his wake.

Good Spinnaker work ensured they retained the lead but following a one lap penalty the team were put on the back foot and could not quite catch Durham School.

Killington's best result in the 'races within the race' was when Katherine Fleck was helming in the 4pm Ladies race, where she was placed fifth above many Enterprises and GP14s.

While they missed out on the overall Bosun Trophy by 11 seconds average lap time over 50 laps, Killington deservedly won the U18s Bosun team event.

In the meantime, Chay, George and James are three of the Killington sailors doing so well in the Laser Lakeland and Far Northern series and look forward to the July event at South Windermere.
