Ormskirk 1st 1 - 1 Kendal 1st

KENDAL Men's 1st team travelled to Ormskirk hoping to continue their good start to the season - but were forced to settle for a point.

Kendal started the game well, building on last week's solid passing game.

Nick Davis, Chris Woodman and John Stanworth calmly controlled play from the back while Aaron Screen and Ayrton Boyd were dominant in midfield.

The Ormskirk keeper was pressed into action early, making several saves until Boyd broke the deadlock scoring from open play.

The home team had few attacks, but did force a top quality save from Kendal keeper Rob Cartwright and also earned themselves a penalty corner. Ormskirk converted their advantage into a goal as the ball deflected off an unfortunate Kendal defenders stick to see the scores level at the break.

The second half continued in similar fashion as Kendal continued to have the lions share of possession and comfortably kept the ball for large periods of the game.

Unfortunately, Kendal could not convert their dominance into goals and the Ormskirk keeper made save after save to deny and frustrate the forwards.

A rare Ormskirk attack against the run of play in the second half saw the home team almost steal the points but Dan Waterhouse made a last second clearance on the line to secure an away point for Kendal.

Meanwhile, Kendal 2nds hosted Keswick 3rds in their first home league game but failed to build on last week's victory at Leyland and Chorley.

Kendal turned out with a full squad of 16, which again featured many under 16s, but found it difficult to get into their rhythm and Keswick quickly started to dominate the possession.

Kendal’s defence remained solid and the visitors were restricted to half chances mainly from penalty corners.

Kendal started to grow into the game and a through ball from Mike Hinchliffe picked out Giles Holden as he moved into the top of the Keswick D.

As the keeper came out to meet him, Holden deftly lifted the ball over the keeper and into the vacant goal.

The second half saw further dominance of possession by Keswick as Kendal struggled to assert themselves in the midfield and Keswick took advantage scoring two goals to secure the win.
