KENDAL's first team were on the wrong end of two heavy defeat this weekend.

On Saturday they travelled to play Preston's third team hoping to continue their good run of form but ended up losing 6-1.

And on Sunday they were hoping for an upset when they hosted Division One team Lymm 1st in the England Hockey Vase Competition - but lost 4-1.

Against Preston, Kendal missed a couple of early chances, which if scored could have made for a different game.

Pressing Kendal high from the start with a well drilled, the home team soon took the lead.

And an unfortunate series of individual errors meant Kendal found themselves down by three goals at half time.

The second half started in a similar fashion with Preston scoring twice in quick succession from the restart.

Kendal rallied and changing formation started to gain a foothold in the game.

Man of the match Ewan Galloway scored Kendal's only goal from a ridiculously tight angle, but it was only a consolation goal.

Preston added a sixth goal five minutes before the end to round off a disappointing game for The Greens.

The game against Lymm started with both teams playing well.

But the team that play three leagues above Kendal earned themselves a series of penalty corners and did not waste them - scoring three times with well worked, highly drilled routines to take a 3-0 lead in at the break.

The second half was far more even and Kendal arguably controlled the majority of the play, although the number of chances were roughly the same at each end.

Man of the match Gordon Blunt was once again rampant down the right flank and Kendal pressure lead to a moment's hesitation from the visitors defence, allowing Ayrton Boyd to pounce on a rare loose ball in the Lymm D to score for Kendal.

Lymm added a fourth before the end with a break away goal.
