The Cumbria Grand Hotel, Grange over Sands, was the venue once again for the 30th annual boxing and dinner evening held by the Furness and South Lakeland Group of Freemasons.

Held under the auspices of Kendal Amateur Boxing Club the boxing witnessed 12 bouts of varying experience and skill.

These included schoolboy, female youth, elite and heavyweight grades with one contest being for the North West Counties 75kg belt.

An excellent five-course meal preceded the action while raffles, an auction and other fund raisers ensured that there was a good sum raised for charity.

Boxing chairman Gary Rogerson said: “The final figure raised will not be known until all the bills have been paid and the accounts drawn up but it is anticipated we will be near to or even surpass the record £6,000 raised last year.”

Alan Jones, chairman of the Furness and South Lakeland Freemasons, said: “We are very grateful to the boxing committee, Kendal boxing club, the raffle tickets sellers, Cumbria Grand Hotel and our very generous sponsors who ensure that each year we enjoy good food and excellent boxing whilst raising a considerable amount of money for worthy causes.”

The actual amount raised will not be announced until the presentation evening later in the year when the proceeds of the evening are distributed to good causes.
