Kendal Ladies Wasps turned out for a battle against Manchester on a very miserable, wet and wild Easter Sunday at Mint Bridge

Once the game kicked off the howling weather did not put the Wasps off as strong running and close passes came together from the start.

The forwards all worked together as they retained the ball tight.

Spaces were created as the ball was passed out wide to Hayley Hodgson, who built up some speed before she crashed her way over the try line.

The Wasps soon scored a second try as Sarah Wilkinson's burst of speed set up Hodgson, who grasped the ball as she scored her second of the afternoon.

This seemed to galvanise Manchester and with some quick play they found space and managed to work their way through to put points on the board for an unconverted try.

As the rain stopped and the sun did its best to appear the Wasps upped their game and another four tries came from Hayley Hodgson with the ball going through hands from one side of the pitch to the other.

One of these was converted by Emma Chadwick in a tough battle with the wind.

The remainder of the game was a strong battle of the forwards, lots of great scrums, mauls and crash balls which saw Kerry Procter work hard to get the next try of the game.

Rachelle Malette rounded off the scoring as she ran through a number of players before grounding the ball as the Wasps won 42-5.

Amber Kershaw was awarded forward of the match with some great play in her first ever game for the Wasps, and Emma Chadwick was awarded back of the match, with her hard work at 10.

The Wasps are now back at the top of their league table and face another tough game next Sunday at home against Darlington, who are just two points behind.
