ULVERSTON'S Hoad Hill Harriers hosted the first fell race over the monument for its 30th anniversary at the weekend.

It was an exciting race for the youngsters competing in 5 races from Under 8 to Under 16 and there was a good turnout considering the weather over the Easter weekend.

Some great racing took place with youngsters heading straight up over Hoad Hill with some great views on offer for spectators and runners alike.

Competitors came from a range of clubs throughout the north west and were excited to have the opportunity to add the race to the Fell junior championships next year.

In the under 8 event Settle Harriers' Jack Sanderson took victory over Blake Flemming, closely followed by Rueuben Eley. first girl home was Evie Corkill.

The under 10 race had a larger field with Bethan Saunders from hosting club Hoad Hill Harriers taking victory ahead of Patrick Casey from Calder Valley.

The largest field was in the under 12 race which saw Henry Hunter from Helm Hill take victory with a 44 second lead over Scott Fisher. A close field followed with 3rd male James Duffy from Calder Valley, closely followed by first female Olesia Winder of HHH.

Under 14 & U 16 ran together as by this time the weather had closed in and conditions on the fell were worsening. Connor O'hara of HHH took victory in the U14 and Logan Hargreaves in the U16.

Race director Louise Halliday said: "It was good, the weather turned a little bit at the end but it went well.

"But it was a good course, it was quite hard for the kids with the big slope."
