CARUS Green Golf Club's junior member Harriet Barker is celebrating after her team won the North of England Under 16 friendly competition at St Andrews.

Competing against the south of Scotland under 16 team, 14-year-old Harriet was joined by six other junior girls from across the North of England, to win the match by six to two.

Harriet, who was selected for the England Golf North Regional U16 training squad last September, and has a handicap of 7.7, finished the round four over par, despite scoring a nine on one hole.

The Queen Katherine School, Kendal, pupil has been playing golf since the age of eight and competing since the age of ten.

A member of Carus Green golf club for more than four years, Harriet trains at their academy every night, in addition to undertaking early morning gym sessions to aid her strength.

Bi-monthly coaching sessions with Carus’ head professional, Dave Turner, has particularly yielded, as Harriet’s mum, Jane Barker, explains: “Dave’s coaching has been absolutely instrumental for Harriet.

"He’s managed to enable her to visualise how her golf game can improve; he’s a great support. We are extremely proud of Harriet. Her hard work, dedication and positive attitude are really starting to pay off and St Andrew’s was an excellent result. She’s playing very much to form at the moment and we’re looking forward to what the season will bring.”

Dave said: “We’re delighted that Harriet is playing so well and St Andrew’s was a terrific start to the season.

"She is an exceptional example of what can be achieved with real commitment and if she maintains this, I’m confident we will continue to see great things from her.”

In 2015, Harriet won seven competitions including the ladies club competition at Carus Green, making her the youngest ladies club champion in the history of the club.
