KIRKBY Lonsdale RUFC continue to breathe down Kendal's necks as they picked up yet another bonus-point win at Wilmslow.

The side has been in glistening form recently, and they needed to maintain that to contend with a tough Wilmslow outfit as they won 21-15.

It was the home team that opened the scoring after a series of penalties, Ollie Wilkinson eventually kicking three points for Wilmslow after 15 minutes.

But it was Kirkby who went over for the game's first try, skipper Ben Walker was at the end of a great move following a Dave Barton break to register five points.

Tom Pickthall then added a second try after Lwazi Ngcumgama had carried the ball forward to give the visitors a 10-3 lead at the break.

After a back and forth start to the second period, Ngcumgama again made the difference. Kirkby were attacking on the home twenty two when the ball came into his possession and he broke unstoppably through three tackles at pace to score try number three, Ryan Terry this time successful with the conversion.

When prop Ryan Holmes was yellow carded, Wilmslow were encouraged and managed to reduce the deficit to 17-10 with a converted penalty try.

With their full complement of players restored, the Kirkby backs broke out in a sweeping move which culminated in Terry hanging on to a pass out wide to secure the vital bonus-point fourth try.

Wilmslow again responded with their forwards surging at the Kirkby line and this brought their second try with number eight Alex Taylor touching down to make it 25-15.

Terry had the last say though as he held his nerve with a thirty-metre penalty to leave the final score 27-15.

The result leaves Kirkby two points behind Kendal. With the derby on April 30, Blackburn visit Underley Park this weekend.
