Carus Green golf club has launched weekend competitions for local children, as part of their commitment to the ‘junior drive’.

The first four-hole competition kicked off on Saturday afternoon, with seven children turning out for what was for many a first taste of playing under competition conditions.

All playing off no handicap, the friendly contest was won by 11-year-old Stramongate school pupil Ethan Ross, with six-year-old Keane Clarkson a very close second.

Carus Green currently has 41 members in its junior section, with a healthy number of younger members turning out each Saturday morning for tuition. The club also offers junior coaching on Tuesday evenings throughout the summer.

Head PGA professional Dave Turner: “We were delighted with the turn out on Saturday for our first junior four-hole competition and most importantly, the youngsters had fun.

“We will be holding these every other week and they appear to be a good ‘next step’ for the intermediate golfers. "We are looking forward to watching these enthusiastic young players develop as the season progresses.”
