MEN and women's records tumbled when Sedbergh Sports hosted a round of the British and English fell running championships.

Mercia's Simon Bailey led home the field of 232 male runners, his time of 24-58 being two seconds quicker than the record set last year, despite the 5.6 kilometre course, which took in the summits of Knott and Sickers, being 500 metres longer.

But even more impressive was Victoria Wilkinson's time of 29-05 in winning the ladies' race. The Bingley AC runner's time smashed the previous record by almost two-and-a-half minutes.

All proceeds from Saturday's races will be going to Sedbergh Primary School, who hosted the event in partnership with Howgill Harriers.

Hot-on-the heels of Bailey in the men's race was Sam Tosh of Rossendale Harriers (25:02) and third place went to Jamie Parkinson of Pudsey and Bramley AC (25:04).

Helm Hill's Mark Addison came home in seventh place (25:38) and he was followed over the line by Dufton's Morgan Donnelly.

Keswick's Hannah Horsburgh was second lady, 14 seconds behind Wilkinson while Howgill's Heidi Dent was third in 30-41.

Helm Hill's Sharon Taylor's time of 31:16 was good enough for sixth position, while Ambleside AC's Lou Roberts finished 12th (32:22) despite suffering from a heavy cold.
