KENDAL had a squad of more than 20 attend Copeland Swimming Club’s Open Graded Meet where they had a highly successful day, coming away with 23 medals and 76 personal best times.

For 12-year-old Caitlin Deegan it was another day for her to demonstrate her natural talent and superb skill at backstroke, butterfly and freestyle. Her 100 free saw her quickly take charge and through each lap she got better. Storming into the finish she took gold with a brilliant 1:08.24.

The 200 freestyle proved a little too much and she had to settle for silver. Another fabulous effort at 100 backstroke brought her another silver medal and she went on to bag a complete set with a bronze and pb at 100 butterfly.

Ben Cudby, 14, came into the picture with a superb swim to take silver at 100 backstroke and although missing out on other top honours battled his way to three bronze medals with lifetime bests to match. A blistering swim at 100 freestyle brought him a pb of 1.08.53 followed by more pbs for 100 and 200 individual medleys and in just missing out on medals for 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke his contribution stands out as the best of the day amongst the Kendal squad.

Elise Tallon, nine, added to her list of swims to be proud of as she took silver at 100 individual medley and also collected bronze in 100 breaststroke and 100 freestyle.

Ellie Bottomley kept up the momentum, achieving pbs in all her events, together with a silver for 100 breaststroke and bronze for 100 individual medley.

Freya Capstick (100 breaststroke) and Alex Tallon (200 individual medley) both took silver while Alice Eastwood, Alex Walton, Max Ainsworth and Leon Priestley Nying took eight bronzes.

medals between them and P.B.s all round and leaving the future of the Club in a healthy position.
