Kendal’s up and coming junior took the 2016 Blackpool Rocks Gala by storm as they came away with a host of medals.

Alex Tallon, 11, got them away with a brilliantly taken Gold medal in the 200m Butterfly. After an explosive start he immediately put himself on the front and set a relentless pace. Over the first 100 he built up a commanding lead despite the threat of Fleetwood's Brett Newcombe who worked hard to keep in touch. The second 100 saw Tallon tiring a little, but refusing to panic, held his nerve and with a supreme effort dug deep into his reserves to seal the win. He then took on the 100 Butterfly where the pace was a bit more hectic and although he cracked his personal best he had to settle for the Bronze medal. He completed a fine collection with another Bronze medal from his efforts at the all round 200 Individual Medley.

Caitlin Deegan and Ollie Sargeant also continued to get into medal winning positions with brilliant P.B. swims. Deegan, a 50 Backstroke sprinter exploded off the wall and found herself mixing it stroke for stroke with a group of five swimmers. Out of the turn it was obvious a blanket finish was on the cards. The pace was relentless and hitting the finish together Deegan was just touched out into Silver medal place. The 50 Butterfly saw Sargeant in brilliant form, get a flying start and out of transition found himself contesting one of the finest races of the meet. Shoulder to shoulder the swimmers turned into the last length with Sargeant injecting more pace to put his rivals under pressure. No one gave an inch and with five swimmers hitting the pads together Sargeant was just touched out of the win. 10-year-old Lucie Bulman gave brilliant performances to take the Bronze medals at 50 and 100 Freestyle. Her sprinting prowess had her full of confidence and putting herself in a bid for success powered through the first 25 and came out of transition with three rivals all driving hard for the pads. The blanket finish saw Bulman hold on to a medal place. The more tactical 100m race had two swimmers draw clear ahead of Bulman but she kept calm and held off all challenges for another medal. Lucy Sargeant, another Bronze medallist in the 200 Individual Medley had to use all her know how and skill to put herself on the path to success. The Butterfly and Backstroke legs saw two rivals move ahead but in Breaststroke Sargeant made a huge challenge which gave her enough distance to hold on to that coveted third place.
