Kendal Town Ladies 0 Workington Reds 1

Kendal Town Ladies suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Workington at The Pye Motors Stadium.

The Mintcakes, who had Lauren Hackett sent off in the second half, battled well, but the visitors, who won the Cumbria Cup last season, held out on a frustrating night for Lauren Downham's team.

In the first half both sides did not create much in front of goal. For the first 30 minutes the defences were on top.

However, as the half wore on, Kendal began to get into their stride and Lisa Rowlinson saw her effort on goal go just over the bar.

The visitors began to create opportunities of their own and Town 'keeper Bella Martindale had to pull off a good save after an effort by one of Workington’s strikers.

At the start of the second half Workington were the better of the two sides and began to push Kendal back. However, despite being under pressure, it was Kendal who threatened on goal with Joanne Thompson seeing her effort saved by the Workington 'keeper.

Kendal battled and defended bravely after Workington began to dominate the game, although Kendal always looked dangerous on the counter attack.

The pace of the home team almost paid off after Kendal caught Workington on the break, only to be denied by the Workington backline.

However, Workington broke the deadlock in the 75th minute when Hayley Bracken scored. Once Kendal had fall behind they did everything they could to equalise.

The Mintcakes' night was further compounded after Lauren Hackett was sent off. Workington saw the game out, while Kendal will be keen to bounce back.
